Electrical discharge machining
EDM machines use electrical discharge machining (EDM) to precisely cut and machine hard materials such as hardened steel, tungsten and titanium. The process uses electrical sparks between an electrode and the workpiece to gradually remove material, making it possible to produce very complex geometries with a high degree of precision. The RCK has two EDM machines: the MV1200S for wire EDM and the SG12S for sinker (electrode) EDM.

CNC EDM machine MV1200S

CNC EDM machine SG12S

The MV1200S is a wire EDM machine made by Mitsubishi Electric, known for its high precision and reliability.

Key features:

  • Advanced D-CUBES technology for optimised cutting
  • High precision and surface quality
  • Automatic wire threading and changing
  • Intuitive control system with a modern interface
  • Low energy consumption and optimised operating costs

It is used in the tool, mould and precision engineering industries, where detailed cuts and tight tolerances are required.

The SG12S is a sinker EDM machine, used to produce cavities, slots and precise details with copper or graphite electrodes.

Key features:

  • High machining speed and stability
  • High precision and fine surface finish
  • Advanced system for adjusting erosion parameters
  • Suitable for demanding industrial applications such as tool and mould making

This machine is particularly useful when conventional cutting processes are not precise enough or cannot machine hard materials.

Applications

These machines are used in industries that require high precision, machining of hard materials and complex geometries that are difficult or almost impossible to achieve on conventional machines such as CNC milling machines and lathes. They are used in the tool and mould industry, the automotive industry, the aerospace industry, the medical industry, micromechanics, the energy sector and others.

Learning and cooperation with industry

These machines are a key part of practical training and modern educational approaches in mechanical engineering technology. They allow students to gain practical knowledge of electrical discharge machining, preparing them for the labour market and further education in technical fields. Students receive high-quality education aligned with the needs of modern manufacturing, making them competitive on the labour market and ready for further professional development.

We provide adult education and work actively with industry by offering EDM services. Through this cooperation we enable industrial partners to have parts made precisely, with cooperation arranged for mutual benefit.
